Größter Arbeitgeber ist die Firma Porsche, deren Entwicklungszentrum sich in Weissach befindet. Weitere kleinere Industrie- und Gewerbebetriebe am Ort zeigen, dass Weissach auch ein attraktiver Wirtschaftsstandort ist. Hierfür sind nicht zuletzt die gute Verkehrsanbindung und der Autobahnanschluss der nahegelegenen Autobahn A 8 verantwortlich.
Weissach dürfte auf eine merowingische Gründung zurückgehen. Seit 1150 ging der Ort allmählich in den Besitz des Klosters Maulbronn über. Weissach besitzt eine 1254 erstmals erwähnte spätgotische Pfarrkirche mit romanischen Resten und einem freistehendem Turm. Zusammen mit dem alten Steinhaus und dem bereits 1254 befestigten Friedhof bildet die Kirche eine bemerkenswerte Befestigungsanlage.
