Oberboihingen liegt verkehrsgünstig in der Region Stuttgart im landschaftlich reizvollen Neckartal zwischen Nürtingen und Wendlingen am Rande der Schwäbischen Alb. Von hier aus hat man einen herrlichem Blick auf Teck und Neuffen.
Neben verarbeitendem Gewerbe (Metall, Maschinenbau und Elektrotechnik) ist heute das Handwerk eine tragende Säule im wirtschaftlichen Leben. Die ehemals landwirtschaftlich geprägte Gemeinde entwickelte sich aufgrund ihrer Lage an der Eisenbahnstrecke Stuttgart - Tübingen zu einer Wohn- und Industriegemeinde. Sehenswert ist der Versuchsbetrieb (Hofgut Tachenhausen) der Fachhochschule Nürtingen und das älteste Pfarrhaus, der Hohentwiel, im Landkreis Esslingen aus dem Jahr 1467.
